A Simple 15-Minute Morning Yoga Routine

A gentle, wake-up sequence you can do at home before the day begins — no experience needed, and every pose has an easy version.

You do not need an hour or a studio to feel the benefits of yoga. Fifteen quiet minutes in the morning, done most days, will loosen a stiff body, steady your breathing and set a calmer tone for everything that follows. Move slowly, breathe deeply, and never force anything.

The routine (about 15 minutes)

1. Settle and breathe — 2 minutes

Sit comfortably. Close your eyes and take slow breaths, a little longer on each exhale. This shifts your body out of "just woke up" mode.

2. Cat–Cow — 2 minutes

On hands and knees, gently arch and round the spine with your breath. A perfect way to wake up the back.

3. Child's Pose to Downward Dog — 3 minutes

Flow slowly between resting in Child's Pose and a bent-knee Downward Dog, stretching the whole back body.

4. Low Lunge, each side — 3 minutes

Step one foot forward into a gentle lunge to open the hips, then switch. Great for anyone who sits a lot.

5. Standing Forward Fold — 2 minutes

From standing, fold gently with soft knees and let your head and arms hang. Releases the back and hamstrings.

6. Mountain Pose and a few breaths — 3 minutes

Stand tall, roll the shoulders back, and take several full breaths. Notice how different your body feels from fifteen minutes ago.

Tips to make it stick

  • Leave your mat out the night before, so there is nothing to set up.
  • Pair it with an existing habit (before coffee, after brushing your teeth).
  • Consistency over perfection — a short routine you actually do beats a long one you skip.
How you start the morning tends to set the tone for the day. Fifteen calm minutes is a small investment with an outsized return.
